What is a Nodezilla Magnet Link

A Nodezilla magnet link is a simple way to reference in an unambigous way an object on the EVL Grid. With these kind of links you can link your friends to content and places you like. There are actually two kinds of links usable in the Nodezilla Java Client:

URL Magnets

Magnets represented as a signle string as URLs? in Web browser. They are easy to handle (i.e. can easily be copied&pasted to your mail editor for instance), but they don't specify the kind of objects they reference, your friend must know that the magnet reference a SharedFile? or a PhotoAlbum?. A typical URL magnet looks like this magnet:?xt=urn:sha1:7e0c7b97a9d35548ec2d8fe30bcbd9790ce6087f&dn=Crete+Island

File Magnets

Magnets stored in very small files. They are self-sufficient, meaning the type of objects they reference is stored in the file.

How do you build Magnets

You currently can build URL Magnets or File Magnets from 4 differents places:

• The results panels of the Nodezilla Client, by right-clicking on a result and selecting either:

• 'Copy as Magnet Link', to create a URL magnet in your clipboard
• 'Write Magnet File', to write a File Magnet corresponding to the selected share

• The download panel of the Nodezilla Client, by right-clicking on a download
• The Stream Panel of the Nodezilla Client, by right-clicking on a currently broadcasted/subscribed stream

• The PeerSnap magnet toolbar icon, this will only produce URL Magnets.

How do you use a Magnet

To use File Magnets

If you are running Java 1.5, the easiest way is to double-click on them, it will run the Java Client and setup your stream or download accordingly.

To use URL Magnets

Depending on the type of url you received (file, stream or album) you can enter them in the following places:

• In the file menu, by selecting 'Download from a magnnet'

• In the streaming panel, by pasting the magnet in the corresponding input box:

• In PeerSnap, by selecting the 'subscribe' icon
